the LAUNCH and event this past weekend (Nov 5th).
I am blessed.
I have a family that loves me, believes in me and supports me. The last 2.5 weeks have felt like a bit of an ART family madhouse around here!! My sister had the idea/suggestion of showing some of my photography at some craft/art fairs during this holiday season, so she booked me at the one we did this past weekend (Nov 5).
Sounds easy enough, right?! Well simply having a date on the calendar pushed many ideas into overdrive. I have long been wondering how to include ART in the midst of what I do and to give it a bit more room. Thus the idea of a separate web-site dedicated solely to ART surfaced; Photography and PAINT. This project was undertaken by my brother-in-law, Jeremy, who continued his web-development work after hours at home, in the wee hours after dinner and in-between life with a two year old.
We also had the idea of making some note cards, as a way to have an accessible product (only $3!!), for many of us who are pinching pennies in these tough times. So the endless assembly line of folding and gluing took place, thanks mom and sister.
Then you need clear plastic bags for such note cards as well as some brown bags to put the purchased cards into once they are purchased. So we did some research on the ol’ interweb and ended up purchasing 1000 clear plastic bags, 1000 small brown plastic bags and 1000 big brown bags. (yes that is correct 3000 bags!!! how did this happen!!)
Well then, you can’t just have brown bags with nothing on them, so I managed to make my own screen print with 2 different hand drawn logos on it to place on the bags.
Then you need some new business cards, and artists bios to hand out.
Oh and a few hundred dollars worth of photos to sell as well.
And of course somehow having a booth to hang and show the photos. Thanks POPS for jumping in there with me on that front and constructing an epic booth!!!
Then of course to add to the mix, some sort of banner with the web site on it (thanks Draper)!
Yeah we basically launched a whole business in 2 weeks!!
(I think a part of me is still recovering from the craziness!!)
The last week leading up to the show I got approximately 4-6 hours of sleep each night. It was a little exhausting, but there was one night where I was screen printing on the bags and asked the question: would I do what I am doing if I did not get paid for it?? And with a big smile on my face, I said YES! For that simply is the reality of how it is at the moment.
I honestly do not think that I will get rich with these art endeavors and I am constantly reminded that is not why I am doing it. That is not why my family jumped in with me these last few weeks, I think that we all believe in it. We believe in ART, we believe in what I have been doing that past 7 years: traveling the world and sharing the LOVE of the Creator.
My heart through art is to inspire people to GO.
TO GO beyond their current circumstance, to go beyond their current boundaries in life. To pursue TRUTH and to seek it out.
I was showing some of my photos to some friends in a living room and one of them said, “your photos make me want to travel,” that response is what I am going for.
I may not have made any money on Saturday, but I did have some great conversations with some interesting people….and we launched something.
Yes maybe we (meaning ME) went a little overboard for this one event – but I feel that this was much bigger than just one event. We launched something that has been in the works for sometime now and have built a new platform for future aspects of a big part of my life and ministry.
The day after the show, I woke up with NEW IDEAS!! Ideas of how to make the site better, etc. I wrote them down, drank some coffee, sat on the couch and proceeded to rest.
So go over to willrosenbergART.com and check it out!!
(If you want some note cards, shoot me an e-mail: rosenberg.will@gmail.com. They are not yet listed on the site, but we have a few extra ready to go!!)
And I must send out a great big THANK YOU to Jeremy, Ilana, Micah, Dariea, & Gary — you guys are the best “team” (family) ever!!!!
For me, on the ART front, there is no where to go but UP!!
